Arkham Mysteries: The Thricefold Power

2025 / 03 / 26

An investigation for Arkham Mysteries written by Christopher Hunt

Greetings, investigators. Leah here, and it is once again time for a little sneak-peak into the supernatural horrors that await you and your fellows in Arkham Mysteries, an adventure anthology for the Arkham Horror RPG. In the previous articles we talked about the book as a whole, the first featured scenario, The Ophidian’s Nightmare by Brandon Perdue, and the second scenario, One for the Road by Keith Ryan Kappel. In this final installment of snack-sized teaser articles we’ll peak through the veil and discover the power of three in The Thricefold Power by Christopher Hunt. And don’t worry, everything here is safe to read and won’t spoil any of the twists and turns of the investigation.

The Thricefold Power takes place over six main scenes and explores themes of power and hubris, and the danger of trying to control what mortal minds may not be capable of understanding. The Silver Twilight Lodge and Carl Sanford play a part in the investigation, and players have the opportunity to see more of the city of Arkham’s locations as they look into several unsettling rumors and reports of bizarre occurrences. This adventure is short, sweet, and was designed to keep the energy flowing as the investigators must bounce from one horrifying mess to another.

When we were initially deciding the concept for this investigation we really wanted to play around with the enigmatic power of the number three. Designing adventures using the number three as a framework can help give your players a sense of progressive accomplishment and maintain their interest as the story you’re trying to tell unfolds in front of them. In the case of this adventure, three problems can be approached in a bunch of different ways, and after each one is “dealt” with, the investigators have only a brief moment to celebrate their victory (or analyze their failure) before they must tackle the next looming horror that threatens the people of Arkham.

And with that, it’s a wrap, cool cats! I hope you enjoyed a little taste of the investigations that await you in Arkham Mysteries. Oh, and of course, do remember that it pays to be cautious and polite when dealing with beings beyond your understanding!
